November 16, 2023 The last 30 days we have been hunkering down to prepare for our upcoming familiarization tours. But, we still managed to keep a robust schedule of meeting with international trade commissioners, local municipalities and global investors.
Project Updates: Project Daphne: Site Selection and business consulting for an energy related manufacturing facility. Visas are now secured, itineraries are set, and plane tickets purchased. We will be on the road the last week of November first week of December. Look for pictures on the SelectGlobal LinkedIn Page.
Two eastern European companies looking to expand operations in the USA: One is looking at a $20 mm expansion in the Pacific Northwest, and the other is looking at a $100 mm greenfield investment in the southern states are working out their 2024 action plans and we should have an update in Q1, 2024.
We continue to work with an Area Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) / unit of government in Texas to fine tune their local incentives and descriptions of their 3pl+ service offering to an international market. In the past month we have been reviewing their incentive options and comparing them to adjacent states.

REDUCING RISK & SPEND IN THE GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN: |

Reducing Risk & Spend in the Global Supply Chain: Reviewing Options with A Focus on Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ).
This was one of the most important programs we attended all year. It was a discussion of how FTZ work. Foreign Trade Zones are a great way of bringing goods into the USA and deferring and transmuting tariffs to enhance the cash flow of U.S. businesses.
Thomas Cook, Managing Director, Blue Tiger International presented an overview of the FTZ program. Best of all, we won one of his books by knowing that San Ysidro Land Port of Entry. It is the busiest border crossing in both the US and the Western Hemisphere, as well as the fourth busiest land border crossing in the world.

Building Business’s Relationships Between Lithuania and the USA: |

On November 15, 2023, Michael presented to a group of 10 Lithuanian Food Companies at Building Business’s Relationships Between Lithuania and the USA, a program of
Embassy of Lithuania to the United States of America,
Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in Chicago,
Public Institution Rural Business and Markets Development Agency (LitFOOD) and Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania. The presentation centered on overview of the U.S. Market as well as available programs to help launch and expand businesses in America.

Chicago Chapter of the International Propeller Club, Kick Off Event: |

In late October, we attended the "rekindling" of the Chicago Chapter of the International Propeller Club. After a 15 year absence, Ben Pinnington brought together a solid set of speakers to discuss the importance of the maritime industry to the Great Lakes Region. Mr. Pinnington said Chicago is a city ‘built on maritime its geographical position holding the keys to the continent’.
“We want to bring awareness of maritime back here to drive investment in the port, the city and the Great Lakes region from a $3 trillion global industry,” he said. “We want to champion the St Lawrence Seaway and the Inland Waterways network as the most environmentally friendly, most cost-effective form of transport.”
More meetings are planned.

Business Facilities LiveXchange Emerging industries, Columbus, OH:Michael met with 8 municipalities across 5 states and reconnected with site selection and tax professionals from across the country. Part of the program was a private tour of The Ohio State University Stadium and the National Veterans Memorial and Museum. Also, Ann Cosgrove, Editorial Director of Business Facilites, interviewed Michael for the Business Facilites Podcast discussing what to prepare for in investing in the USA.
